An epoxy floor is only as good as what's underneath it

If you're getting quotes for an epoxy or concrete coating floor, this free epoxy contractor checklist is built to protect you. The coatings that fail rarely fail because of the product alone, they fail because of the prep, the process, or the protection. And almost none of that is visible in a simple price quote.

A floor that peels, chips, or lifts a year after install almost always traces back to a shortcut taken before the color ever went down, concrete that wasn't properly prepped via mechanical grinding, a moisture barrier that was skipped to save time, or a warranty that sounded good but didn't actually cover the things that go wrong.

The hard part is that many of these indicators are not visible in a quote. Two contractors can hand you a similar-looking price for what turns out to be very different work. So we wrote down everything worth checking.

What's on the Free Epoxy Contractor Checklist

We put together a Homeowner's Guide: a simple, print-and-use checklist that walks you through what to ask, check, and verify before you sign with any epoxy or concrete coating contractor, not just us.

It covers the things that actually matter:

  • Credentials: licensed, insured, bonded, and how to verify it yourself

  • Surface prep: full mechanical grinding vs. shortcuts, and why it matters

  • Materials: industrial-grade systems, full-coverage flake, polyaspartic topcoats

  • Warranty: what a real 10-year warranty should name in writing

  • The agreement: fair deposits under California law and required disclosures

  • Working with them: responsiveness, no high-pressure tactics, a clean jobsite

Not every homeowner gets three quotes, and you don't always have to in order to make a smart decision. Simply print one copy for each contractor you're considering, check the boxes as you go, and you'll have a clear, side-by-side picture.

Why we made this

It might seem unusual for a contractor to hand you a tool designed to scrutinize contractors. We see it differently.

The standards in this guide are the ones that separate a coating built to last from one that fails early, and we hold ourselves to every one of them. Full mechanical grinding on every square inch. Moisture-barrier primer included, not quietly billed later. Industrial-grade epoxy and polyaspartic systems. A 10-year warranty that names chipping, peeling, and delamination in writing. A fair deposit and a CSLB-compliant agreement.

We're a family-owned, local business, and we'd rather earn your trust with a useful tool than a hard sell. If this checklist helps you choose well, even if it's not us, it did its job.
